영어공부 21탄 (술자리에서 쓰는 말들)

1. 원삿 = bottoms up!

2. I'd like to make a toast. 건배사/축배사를 하고 싶어요.

3. Here is to +대상 ~를 위해서 (단순히 'to+ 대상'만 써도 됨)

Here's to a great year. = to a great year.

Here's to us.

Here's to 50, dad.

 

4. 술 취한 = drunk?

술 취한 정도에 따라

 sober < tipsy< drunk< wasted/trashed

I'm a light drinker<-> I'm a heavy drinker.

I have a low tolerance ( for alcohol) <-> I have a high tolerance.

5. sober- 술이 깬/ 안 취한

I am sober. 술 안 취했어

I am almost sober.

Go get sober then call me. (가서 술 깨고 나한테 전화해)

6. tispy 약간 취기가 오른 =slightly drunk

You sound a little tipsy.

You sound tipsy.

I'm getting tipsy.

We're a little bit tipsy.

A: Do you want another one?

B: No, I'm good. I'm pretty tipsy already.

I've had enough, man.

drunk< wasted/trashed (만취한)

7. designated driver 지정 운전자- a member of a group who abstains enjoying something from alcohol in order to drive the others saftly.

okay, names in the hat.

8. 술을 잘 못 마실때

I'm getting old. I can't drink as much as I used to.

Bow, my metabolism is slowing down.

In my 30s, I was a social drinker.

I have a low tolerance ( for alcohol).

* tolerance:  내성/저항력

 I wish I could have another but I have an early meeting tomorrow( or I have a long day tomorrow).

'내성/저항력' 외에 "용인/관용" 이란 뜻으로도 자주 쓰이는  tolerance

무관용을 의미하는  zero tolerance

We have zero tolerance for cell phones in class.

Zero tolerance for sexual harassment.

I have zero tolerance for liars.

I have zero tolerance for anybody who doesn't understand.

I have zero tolerance for betrayal which tey will soon indelibly learn.
