영어공부 103탄(potluck/chip in/pet peeve/fair enough/you bet)

1. potluck  각자 요리를 조금씩 해와서 같이 먹는것

사전:  an informal meal where guests bring a different dish that is then shared with the other guests.

-We meet on Tuesdays, and it's potluck lunch.

Everybody has to bring something.

-As Dave Liniger once said, " You can't succeed coming to the potluck with only a fork."

-Gemma's having a potluck wants us all there.

BYOB=Bring Your Own Bottle.

Beer or Booze

The invitation said BYOB.

 

2. chip in :  돈을 조금씩 보태다

사전:  to give some money, esp. when several people are giving money to pay for something together.

Do you wanna chip in for sarah's birthday?

We should each chip in &10 to take him out to dinner.

And I got the perfect card!

Having chipped in, you may now sign.

Can you sing his card?

We all chipped in and got you this stroller.

To everyone who chipped in.

 

3. pet peeve:  특히 싫어하는것

사전:  something that especially annoys you

Weak coffee is one one of my pet peeves.

Do you have any pet peeves?

One of my bigget pet peeves is when people show up late, and don't apologize whatsoever.

-  상대가 1분을 기다려도,  Sorry to keep you waiting.

Tha's one of my pet peeves.

You send out on invitation that says RSVP and 50% of the people don;t reply.

Don't you just hate it when that happens.

Yes, that is my pet peeve.

 

4. fair enough: 알겠어, 그럴만해/그렇수도 있겠다.

사전:  1) used for saying that you understand and accept what someone says

2) used for saying that something seens reasonable but you do that agree with if completely.

It;s about timing.

Maybe it's too soon.

Maybe you're righ, but I need to think.

Fair enough.

Take a ong as you want.

Take as ong as you need.

 

5. you bet:  그럼, 당연하지

사전:  you may be sure, certainly.

Can you give us a 30 second demo?

Sure, you bet.

A: thank you, 

B: You bet.

thanks for meeting us.

You bet. what'sup guys?
