영어공부 51탄(회사에서 주로 쓰이는 work)

1) 동사: 일하다

2) 명사 : 일, 공, 노력

3) 먹혀 들다, 효과가 있다, 일정을 잡을때 '되다.'

4) work out:  작동하다

5) work on

6) work around

7) work through

 

1. work: 일하다

1-1.

I need to work late tonight.

You're working late.

I had to work late.

overtime 은  월급에 영항을 미피는 공식적인 표현, work late 는 그냥 늦게 까지 일하는 걸 의미 

ex) Fingers crossed for overtime pay.

1-2.

work together : ~ 와 같이 근무해

A: How do you know each other?

B: We work together.

We used to work together.

 

2) 명사 work: 일, 공, 노력

2-1. What time do you get off work? 몇 시에 퇴근해?

cf) 출근하다:  go to work

   퇴근하다: get off work

ex) What time do you get off tonight?

I get off work at six.

2-2. hard work:  열심히 쏟는 노력, 공

ex) Your hard work just paid off.

hard worker: 열심히 일하는 사람, 노력가

ex) I mean, I'm a real hard worker.

I'm a hard worker.

I mean, It's not luck. You're a very hard worker.

* keep up the good work, everyone.- 걔속해서 열심히 해/ 수고해 ( 상사가 부하직원에계 팀장이 팁원에게 쓰는 표현)

* 또 칭찬 할때 자주 쓰이는 impress work/job- job 은 특정한 task를 잘 해냈다는 걸 칭찬, work 는 들인 노력이나 공을 칭찬

3. 되다, 먹혀들다, 효과가 있다.의 work

I don't think the wifi is working.

~ isn't working: ~가 안돼

I don't think ~ is working.: ~가 안 되는 것 같아

1) 작동이 되고 안 될때

2)( 일정) 시간이 되고 안 될때

Does Monday work for you?

Do you work on Monday?

Does the first week of February work for you?

Does tomorrow work for you at all?

cf) 의문문, 조건문에서 쓰이는  at all:  조금이라도

Does today work for you at all?

 

4. 'work out'  운동하다 

I'm working out at the gym.

You look good. Have you been working out?

work out: 잘 풀리다, 해결되다, 진행되다.

유의어: succeed

(생각했거나 원했던 대로) 잘 풀리다.

I hope everything works out.

work out  뒤에  okay, great, well 을 넣어 강조해도 되지만 생략해도 됨

I'm gonna a make sure everythig works out.

Everything worked out just as I planned.

Unfortunately, thing didn't work out.

5. work on : ~에 열심히 노력을 들이다. 착수하다

1) (work on something) to spend time producing or improving something

2) I'm working on it: used dor saying that you are dealing with something

* What are you working on? 뭘 그렇게 열심히 하고 있어?

We've been working on this side project. - 열심히 프로젝트, 프레젠테이션 등 작업할때 work on,  회사 관련 업무외에 영어실력, 대인 관계 등 내가 개인적으로 개선시키고 싶은 것에 공 들이는 것도 work on

ex) You need to work on your people skills.

You really need to work on your listening skills.

I'm working on it.

Maybe you could start thinking about an exit strategy.

I'm working on it.

6. work around : 피하는 방식으로 문제를 해결하다

Oxford 사전:  to find a way of doing what you want to inspite of situations, rules, etc. that could present you doing it.

We'll work around your schedule. (어떻게 든) 네 일정에 맞출께- 피한다는 뜻 보다는 일정에 맞출때 쓰는게 더 자주 쓰여요.

* I'm free, I'm available 은 단순히 시간이 된다는 거지, 상대의 일정위주로 맞취 준다는 뉘앙스는 없어요.

 

7.work through : 해치우다, (감정적인 일을) 해결하다

사전:  to deal with problems or unpleasant feelings

We can work through this.

work throuhg lunch:  점심시간에도 쉬지 않고 일하다.

To work without stopping for a particular period of time.

I work Monday through Friday.
