영어공부 5탄(honest mistake/Solid/ Thanks for the heads-up/RSVP)

오늘은 우리가 회사에서 흔히 쓰는 단어 있데, 그 의미를 잘못 이해하는 것들에 관해서 알아 보고자 합니다.

1. Honest mistake : 의도치 않은 실수

2. Solid : 괜찮은, 좋은, 믿음직한 =  good but nothing special

3. Thanks for the heads-up : 미리 경고해줘서 고마워

4.Hump day ( 한 주의 고비 ) 수요일

5. RSVP : 참석 여부를 회신 부탁드립니다.

 

1. Honest mistake - 의도치 않은 악의가 없는 실수

~ 실수후 일부러 그런게 아니한 변명할때 씀

ex) Osace, it was an honest mistake.

cf) 사전 보시면 honest의 발음이 'a'로 시작하거든요.

같은 규칙이 적용된 대표적인 문장은 It's an honor. 영광입니다.

 

2. Solid 가 가진 기본적인 뉘앙스

고체처럼 쉽게 변하지 않은 꽉차고 견고한 느낌

- 믿음직한/탄탄한/괜찮은/중단없는

Good but nothing special.

At first glance, solid appears to be a simple word, but it really offers shades of meaning.

A solid friend is dependable. (믿음직한)

If you give a solid performance, it was very good, though not guite great.(잘 했긴 하지만, 엄청 잫한것 아님)

Likewisw, if you achieve a solid win, you win by a large, but not huge, majority.

(크게 이겼지만, 엄청 크게 이긴것 아님)

 

엄청 좋아 이것은 아니고, 괜챃아 ~ 좋네

~동의어= good, reasonable, firm

 

solid idea : 괜찮은/ 좋은 생각, 하지만, wonderful 정도는 아님

ex) (That's a ) pretty solid idea. 꽤 괜찮은 생각인걸

    solid resume 괜찮은 이력서

 

That's a solid idea.

4. Hump day : 수요일

낙타의 혹 (Hump) 의 중간에 가장 높은 부분

한 주의 고비인 수요일에 빗대 hump day 라고 해요.

make: (어떤 장소를 ) 힘들게 하다/ 도발하다

I can't go.

ex) But unfortunately, I don't think I can make it.

ex) No RSVP required. just be there.
