미드나 영드 영화에서 가장 많이 나오는 핵심동사라고 유튜브에 나와서 요약해봅니다.

 

1. figure out : (곰곰히 생각후 ) 이해하다/알아내다

2. be stuck : (안 좋은 상황/ 장소에 갇혀) 꼼짝 못하다.

3. I want to say :(진심) ~라고 꼭 말하고 싶어

1. figure out : (곰곰히 생각한 후) 알아내다/이해하다

   figure 명사: 숫자/수치

  1-1.  Ballpark figure : 어림잡은 숫자/수치 = a number which is approximately correct

  ball (공) 이 있는 park (공원)=야구장

ex) Give me a ballpark figure. How much?

- 숫자/수치 하는 명사의 figure 가 동사로 바뀌면, (곰곰히) 생각/ 판단하다.

2. be stuck : (안 좋은 상황/장소에 갇혀) 꼼짝 못하다

cf)  traffic jam /  bumper to bumper 도 쓰지만, be struck를 많이 씀

   cf) take a rain check (지인과 약속미룰때 정말 많이 씀) 미루다

 

3. I want to say~ = I wanna say~ : (캐쥬얼하게 사용 가능- 진심을 담아) ~ 라고 꼭말하고 싶어

  "thank you"  는 하기 쉬워도 얖에 살 붇이기 어려워요

  ex) I want to say thank you.

      I wanna say thank you.

      Dean, I wanna say thanks for doing this.

 

캐쥬얼한 I wanna say/ I want to say 보다 조금 더 격식을 차려, 강조해서 말하고 싶을때는

I (just) wanted to day ~ : (그냥) ~ 라고 꼭 말하고 싶었어

I just wanted to day thank you.('just' '그냥'을 빼면 더 격식을 차린 표현)

그리고 'I mean it (진심이야)' 도 많이 쓰여요.

 

4. grab : 급히/잠깐 ~ 하다

  '쥐다/잡다' 가 틀린게 아니지만, 그 의미만 알면 해석이 안되때가 많아요.

  ex) Let's grab lunch sometime.

       Let's grab dinner sometime.

       We should grab dinner sometime.

   중요한것 grab dinner (간단히/저녁을 먹다)

                sometime (언제/시간 될때) 가 들어 가는것이다.

 

cf) 자주 하는 실수

sometime : 언제/시간 될때

some time : 시간 좀

-Do you have some time? 시간 좀 있어?

 

Let's grab a drink or whatever sometime.

간단한 술 한잔 :  grab a drink

 

Let's go grab a bite. 뭐 좀 간단히 먹고 오자

  cf) bite (한입)

 

Let me go grab my keys.

Let me go grab my phone. (서둘러 가져오는 느낌)

sure grab a seat.

 

5. company : 동료/일행/ 같이 있어줌

 Do you want  some company?

 (I'd ) love some company.

 

I enjoy your company.

-반복 되는 패텬-> 현재형 동사 enjoy

 

"늘" 이라고 강조하지 않고 좀 더 가볍게 한번의 상황에 대해선  I enjoyed your company. ( 같이 있어 즐거웠어)

ex)  Nothing, I enjoy her company.

     I did enjoy her company. ( enjoyed 보다 강조)

     Sorry, I have company.

 

6. I didn't mean to + 동사 원형 : 일부러 ~ 한게 아니었어/ ~을 의도 한게 아니었어

   I didn't mean to be late.

 

이미 상대가 싫어하는 행동을 한후에  I didn't mean to~

상대가 싫어하는 행동을 하기전에  I don't mean to~

ex) I don't mean to be late, but I'm stuck in traffic. 회사에 늦기전에 차가 밀려 늦을것 갗다고 미히 말해 줄때

   I didn't mean to be late, (but) I was stuck in traffic. (이미 늦은 후에)

 

(방해하기전에)

-I don't mean to interrupt, but I have extremely important news. -what?

(방해한 후)

-I'm sorry. Mr. O'brien.

I didn't mean to interrpt your dinner.

 

7. pick up (피껍) : 집어들다/ 데리러 오다/ 사오다/ 눈치채다./ 익히다.

 

 '데리러 오다' 의 pick up:  Can you pick me up at 5:30?

응용표현 - 5:30-ish (다섯시 반쯤)

            - 5:30 sharp ( 다섯시 반 딱 맞쳐서)

ex) Drop me off at 9:30 and pick me up at 9:45 sharp.

 cf)시간 뒤에 'sharp' 를 붙이면, 딱 맞쳐서/늦지말란' 경각심을을 줌

 

pick up: (간단히) 사오다

I'll go pick up some coffee. (fo and pick up 을 줄여서 사서 사오다란 의미)

특히 상대를 위해 간단히 뭔가를 사올때, buy보다 get 이나 pick up이 부담을 줄여줘요.

- picked you up some coffee.

-And I picked up some chinese food for dinner.

 

(숨겨진 뉘앙스나 목적 등을 집어 들듯) 눈치 채다/ 알아채다= pick up on

pick up on: 눈치패다/알아채다.

pick up 의 마지막 핵심 의미: ~을 익히게 되다/배우다/ 알게 되다.

I pick up some German.  살면서 우연히 주워들은 것들이나 어깨 너머로 배운것들

Well. it's sort of a bad habit I picked up being a report. 

이렇게 'habit' 과 같이 쓰여 안 좋은 습관을 익힐때도 자주 쓰여요.

 

8. call it a day/night : 마무리 한다/ 끝내다.

늦게까지 야근/회식하거나 놀때 let's call it a night (이쯤에서 그만하고 집에 가자)

9. run some errands/ run an errand 볼일좀 보다

평소에 우리도 볼일이 좀 있어' 일좀 보는 중이야' 이런 말 많이 하잖아요.

errand: 심부름/일/용무

I need to run an errand. 볼일이 하나 있 볼일이 여러개 있음

볼일이 있다고, '바쁜척' 할때도 자주 쓴다는...

 

I need to run an errand.

Uh, just going to run some errands.

 

10. make up

make up 은 부족한 점을 채우는 느낌

make-up class :  보강강/보충 수업 ( 빠진 부분을 채우는 느낌)

 

영영사전에 나온 make it up to 의 의미

to do something helpful or good for ( someone one has hurt or treated wrongly)

결론은 잘못을 저지른후 상대의 화흫 풀기위해 뭐가 해 주는것

 

- let me make it up to you.

'만회하다/보상하다' 란 의미의 'make it up to 사람'

 

-약속에 늦어서 깍인 점수를 만회하듯

let me make it up to you.

Lunch is my treat. I wann make it up to you.  점심 내가 살께. (실수로 만회) 화 풀어주고 싶어서 그래

ex) I wanna make it up to you. So I got a plan.

11. kind of (카인 덥) / sort of

    kind of (카인덥)=kinda (카인다)=sort of (쏠럽)=sorta(쏠라)  

   꼭 알아야 할 의미: 쫌, 약간, 어느 정도

I'm kind od hungry. 나 좀 배고픈걸

 

 

ex) Actually, I'm sort of hungry.

     I'm kind of tired.

     I'm kina like her.

     It's kind of getting earm ( hot). 점점 따뜻해져 가는 과정을 강조하는 get

     I'm sota busy right now.

     Sorta like this weather.

 

12. mess : (명사) 엉망인 상태/ 상황

   mess 와 정 붙이기 :  sorry about the mess. (지지인이 내 집, 사무실 들에 왔을때) 정리 정돈이 안돼서 미안.

  mess 는 품사 하나 버릴게 없어요.

  messy (형용사) 지저분한, 엉망인, 골치아픈

 

  cf) 위생적으로 더러운것은 dirty

   

I have to admit. neat freak와는 거리가 멀여요.

앞에 나온 sorry about the mess 처럼 누가 내 사무실이나 집에 놀려 왔을때 또는

내 차에 탈때 예의상 ~ is a bit/litte messy.

ex) Sorry, it's a bit messy.

    It's a litte messy.

 

" 골치 아픈" 이란 의미로도 쓰여요

Also,  do not forget that he has just gone through- a messy divorce.

 

동사 mess  가 좋아 하는 전치사 2개

1) mess with ~을 건들다/ 방해하다

2) mess up : ~을 엉망으로 만들다/ 망치다.

I should have been this coming. (후회) 이렇게 될거라는 것을 알았어야 했는데

   Yeah, everyone saw this coming.
