영어공부 56탄 (input/expedite/swamped/pat on the back/down the road)

1) input 

Thank youo for your input. ( 조언, 아이디어, 피드백을 제공해 줘서 고밥지만 반영한다는 보장은 없을때 자주 쎠요,)

그래서 input 을 브레인스톰 단계에서 자주 쓰더라구요.

advice 보다 반영 가능성은 낮지만, 그래도 의견, 아이디어, 피드백 등이 필요할때, 'I need your input.'

 

2) expedite (엑스뻐다잇) : 더 신속히 처리하다.

ex) So, we're doing our job, trying to expedite the provess.

Now it's time for congress to do their job.

-Could you please expedite the process?

조심스럽게 부탁/요청- I was wondering if you could expedite the process.

조심스럽게 무리한 부탁 - Is there any way you could expedite the process?

ex) We understand this is time-senitive, so we'll do our best to expedite the process.

ex) Figured this would help expedite the whole process, right?

명사: 숫자, 수치 - six figures ( 미화 여섯자리 숫자) 억대

동사: (이것저것 따져보며) 곰곰히 생각하다.-Figured you were busy. ( 네가 바쁠거라 생각했어)

 

3) swamped (일의 늪에 빠진것처럼) 정신없이 바쁜

I'm swamped. 나 정말 바빠

Can we discuss this over dinner?

상대가  나의 근황을 물어보면, 

I've been swamped. 정말 정신 없이 바빴어

I've been swamped with work. 일하는라 정신없이 바빴어

ex) Where have you been hiding out?

I haven't seen you in a while.

Just swamped.

Just swamped with work.

*slammed: (벅찰 정도로 overwhelmed) 할 일이 많은

ex) I'm great.

slammed with work, 

* tied up :( 일에 매어 있는 듯) 바쁜

I'm tied up at the moment.

He's tied up at the moment.

ex) Actually, Maggie, I'm a bit tied up at the moment.

swamped, slammed, tied up.

 

4) pat on the back

Give yourself a pat on the back. (잘 했다고 격려, 칭찬) 스스로 쓰담쓰담 해줘

ex) you all deserve an enormous pat on the back.

I couldn't have done this without you.

ex) kiss ass: 아부쟁이 (슬랭입니다.)

 

5) down the road 근처에 (주로 시골에서) , 앞으로 살면서

dowm the street 근처에 (주로 도시에서)

ex) I live just down the street. 저 바로 근처에 살아요.

ex) There's a great cafe down the street. 근처에 맛있는 카페가 있어

ex) Hey, I saw a pizza place down the street.

* pizza place: 피자집

ex) you hungry?

There is a coffee shop down the road.

down the road : 앞으로, 살면서

It'll help you down the road. = in the future

ex) To make sure folks keep earning higher wages down the road.

We have to do more to help Americans upgrade their skills.

* folks: 사람들

ex) I think will obviously help them down the road.

It's gonna help us down the road.

* 유사표현 : in the long run (장기적으로)

This is gonna help me in the long run.
