run의 활용법

run =  계속, 나아가는 느낌 'flow, continuous, stretch'

run의 기본적인 의미- 뛰다, 재빨리 ~하다 ' to go quickly or in a hurry'

'재빨리 ~ 하다' 의 run

 

1. Sorry, Something's came up, and I gotta run. (미안, 무슨일이 생겨서 빨리 가봐야해)

 

2. run on errand 볼일을 보다

I need to run an errand.

I need to run some errands.

 

3. run around : 이곳저곳 정신없이 다니다.

I've been running around all day. 하루종일 여기저기 다니느라 정신이 하나도 없네

 

4. 운영하다의 'run'

He runs a convenience store.

Who runs this place? (부당한 대접을 받았을대, 정말 최악의 상황에서 담당자와 애기하고 싶을때)

이 표현은 절대 예쁜 표현이 아니니, 좀더 나이스하게

be in charge ~를 담당하다

I need to speak to the person in charge. or I demand to speak to the person in charge.

May I speak to the person in charge?

run: 뛰다, 재빨리~하다, 운영하다., 지속하다

 

5. sorry I'm late. Class ran long. 늦어서 미안, 수업이 늦게 끝났어

*ran long: (늦게 까지 지속) 늦게 끝났어 (구어체)

6. run into= bump into :

1) 사람에게 쓰이면 누군가와 지나가다 우연히 만난 느낌 (crash into, bump into)

I ran into her the other day.

2) 사물에 쓰이면 주로 어려움/문제 등을 겪을때 씀

We ran into some problems. 문제점을 접했어

Aiden and I ran into some trouble.

cf) run into 는 지나가다 우연히 누구가를 만났을때, 문제를 접했을때 쓰면 되거든요. 근데, 

run across 와의 차이를 아는게 어려워요.

7. run across: to find someone or something by chance

1) (사람을) 우연히 만나다/접하다- 지나가다 부딧히며 만날때 보다 살면서, 뭔가 경험하면 만날때 자주 씀

I ran across an interesting article the other day.

These days, it's hard to run across someone without a mask.

You're not exactly the smartest guy I ever ran across.

I've never run across anyone quite like you.

2) (특히 뜻밖의 정보나 물건을) 우연히 마주치다/ 발견하다- find 와 비슷

8. run 대상 by 사람 (피드백, 조언 등을 받기 위해) 아이디어, 문제점 등을 누군가에게 보여주다/말하다.

9. run out of :~가 바닥나다/ 다 떨어지다.
